How to Find the Guts to Go for Your Career Dreams

Kirstin on Fullback and Friends:  Most of us have many career plans/ideas running aroung in our heads, but how many of us actually turn these goals into a reality?  Some of us do, and experience all of the highs (as well as the lows) of living the dream.  Not sure where to start?  Here is some great advice.

Mind the gap: don’t let missing work history damage your CV and interview

Kirstin on Fullback and Friends:  This is a concern that regularly crops up in my 1-2-1s with students.  Employment gaps for a student, are different to an individual who has a longer employment history.   Other reasons for employment gaps are due to too long a CV, in this case it is really important to make sure your employment dates are recorded, but keep older roles to a minimum, and where there is repetition ie. four customer service assistant roles, with different retailers record the most recent and include duties/responsibilities, and then include a short employment statement to capture the additional employment dates and employer names.

Leaders need to create their own roadmap to boardroom success

Kirstin on Fullback and Friends:  This is so true, and the way I personally manage this and encourage my colleagues who I line manage, is set up a yearly career plan that you can be working on in the forms of research, using colleagues as mentors, learning experiences outside of work, and networking to start thinking about progression, in-house training, job secondments and professional qualifications.  It is always good to have a variety of development ideas long-term, short-term that cover a range of financial costs.  This will always help with your annual pdr’s and fingers-crossed your employer will be more open to financially supporting these requests.

3 Ways to Become Truly Irreplaceable at Work

Kirstin on Fullback and Friends:  To me a great way to make this happen, is to firstly find a career/industry you are genuinely interested, that career spark needs to be there in the first place to allow all the other skills and interpersonal jigsaw pieces join together.  As this article highlights, it is not just about being able to do your job, how you support, communicate and network with your colleagues and clients has a big part to play in the process.
